A friend helped me get a job at my undergrad library and I ended up loving it - that same friend then convinced me to get my Masters in Library Science so I could continue to be surrounded by books! I recently read "The Silence that Binds Us" by Joanna Ho for a Young Adults library class - it made me sob but I absolutely loved it. I also finally got around to reading "Howl's Moving Castle" by Diana Wyne Jones - if you love the Studio Ghibli movie, you'll love this book! It's very different from the movie but really really good. My mom was the biggest fan of "The Westing Game" by Ellen Raskin growing up, so as soon as she learned that I could read chapter books, she made me read it. It took me a few readthroughs to fully enjoy it but now it's also one of my favorite books! I would probably bring my iPad loaded with books and movies, and then a notebook or sketchbook and some drawing/painting supplies once the iPad runs out of battery with me to a deserted island.
