Keri, Amy, and I shifted some of the Teen sections today:
The Manga are now underneath the back windows (where the New Books used to be).
The New Books are now facing out on a bookshelf by the TV (where the Nonfiction used to be).
The Nonfiction are now underneath the quilt (where the Graphic Novels used to be).
The Graphic Novels have shifted down, and they now follow the Graphic Novel Biographies (where Manga used to be).
Summer Reading officially ends on August 10 at closing time.
BUT, we will still give out prizes up until school starts while supplies last. That means we will not reorder anything, but we will have prizes available for folks who are already signed up.
Participants will receive an email on Monday with this information.
Once SRP is officially over, I will leave llamas and bags that are left in the Staff Lounge for the taking. Until then, they are not up for grabs (sorry).
New Romance and New Graphic Novels have moved to the GF, at the end of the Romance/Graphic Novel section. We are going to shift the new books next week and the signage will reflect that then.
Graphic Novels are now swapped with Romance, so they begin the section instead of ending it.
I switched the endcap signage on the Ground Floor to reflect that.

Outside organizations and individuals can book meeting rooms two business days in advance. This is updated in Communico but does not always appear on the “Today at the Library” schedules at the service desk. To quickly check events for a particular day, access Communico and follow the instructions below:
Our Summer Reading Program, Reading Is Revolutionary, begins on Monday, June 22. Folks can sign up at the R&R Desk, the Teen Desk, or the Children’s Desk. This program is for kids in grades 1-5, teens in grades 6-12, and adults.
Borrower Services is a part of the town-wide initiative called Let Grow, which encourages kids of all ages to do independent tasks. Kids will check in at their desk for this program, so as not to confuse Summer Reading with this program.
Also a confusing phrase, Summer Reading is what the kids called their required reading lists. In Reading, only the middle schools and AP English classes have required reading.
We see a lot more unattended children in the building during the summer. As a reminder, kids under the age of 10 must be accompanied by someone 14 years or older at all times (even on the same floor of the library) per our Responsibilities Regarding Minors policy.
Summer is a busy time for us. Things can feel chaotic and loud, but that’s entirely normal due to the number of patrons in the building. If you need to take a break, please talk with your supervisor/team! We give our best service when we are not overwhelmed, so remember to take a minute for yourself if it gets to be too much.
If you want to spend an hour on a public desk that you’ve never sat on, now’s your chance! Borrower Services and Public Services are hosting desk shadowing hours in the month of July. All staff are welcome to sign up. For BS and PS workers, it is mandatory.
You can use this link to choose a date for whichever desk you choose. Please discuss this with your scheduling supervisor before signing up if it interferes with your schedule.

KultureCity Sensory Inclusive Training (to be completed by January 31)
RPL is working towards being certified as a Sensory Inclusive institution with KultureCity. KultureCity’s Sensory Inclusive program is designed to help guests with sensory needs like PTSD, autism, dementia, and strokes, just to name a few, feel welcomed.
Combining training by professionals, sensory bags, and signage, the a Sensory Inclusive institution creates a space where all guests are accepted and included. Let’s create the best guest experience for those with sensory needs, ensuring that everyone can attend and have fun.
After 40 years of public service, Chumley has graciously and deservedly retired to Florida.
Our new gerbil named Pepper arrived last week. He’s four months old and very active. Come say hi!
Patron donated 4 passes to the New Bedford Whaling Museum – no dates on them. They are at the Borrower’s Service Desk. Enjoy to whoever would like them!!!
