Book & Library Program Challenges Procedures

What do you do if someone wants us to remove a item from the library collection? This is called a “Challenge” and the person is making a “Request for Reconsideration” (RFR). If you receive a call or someone comes in to complain about a title, here are the steps to take:

If a person wants to fill out the Request for Reconsideration form to remove a title from the collection, the form is located at the Research and Readers desk or on our website under Library Policies. It is also located on the Staff Intranet on the Forms page. The patron should be told the director makes the decision about an item’s appropriateness in the collection based on the Collection Development Policy.

If someone asks for specific names of staff who selects the items for our collection, please let them know there are various committees that make these decisions.

Challenges/Complaints to a Library Program

If a patron would like to challenge or complain about a library program, please provide them with emails for Olivia (mcelwain@noblenet.org), Amy (lannon@noblenet.org), and the Board of Trustees (rpltrustees@noblenet.org).

If a person would like to suggest a program, they can complete the “Suggest a Program” form available on the library’s website under “Events”.
