Patron being inappropriate on phone

A male patron called today and asked for a number of book titles. The patron became inappropriate and staff hung up on them. This is okay. Do not feel that you need to stay on the line for this at all. This patron has called here and other libraries in the past for the same reason. They are being inappropriate.

Do not give your name. Forward to a supervisor if needed.  Hanging up IS an option.

Two new online resources

We have two new online resources just starting:  FamilySearch and Craft & Hobby.  We’ll be promoting them in January, and we’d love some testimonials from staff, so if you get a chance, check them out!  They will only work in the library at the moment, but the craft one will eventually work from home. FamilySearch is a very large collection of genealogical resources–you make a free account and then start searching for your family members. Jocelyn is very knowledgeable if you’re interested!

Local Reading partners list

Hi everyone,

I am working on a list of our local partner organizations and the RPL staff liaisons. I thought we’d already had one, but I can’t find it it lives on the S drive under:  Library Files\02 Working Groups and Teams\Outreach Working Group

While this is a living document, I’d like to have any current liaisons listed by Thursday, December 19th.

Thanks!

Michelle

App for Avid Readers

Some of you might already know about this, so apologies for being five years late to the game! If you’re annoyed with Goodreads and want to try something new and exciting, I am really enjoying StoryGraph, which came highly reviewed from other librarians. You can download your entire Goodreads library to the app so it has all your info, and then it keeps statistics for you on your genres, how fast you read, your various author preferences, etc.

They listen to feedback and are working on setting up a widget to add to email signatures and adding a social media feature to share titles that way, too.

COMPLIMENT

Patron was very complimentary for our restrooms. She liked all the items pertaining to women, phone number to call and the posting for “don’t flush” sign on paper towel holder. She rated us above a ten – and also said she would expect nothing less from this library!!

Rooted in Reading: Garden Improvements

Happening today! New plantings related to our Rooted in Reading grant (FKA “Dig In”). These include an example Sensory Garden and native plants that support pollinators and birds.

Rooted in reading focuses on nature, health, and sustainability. Part of the grantmust be used to add educational garden areas for community enjoyment. The grant will also pay for over 20 programs and provide funds to purchase related books, online resources, and items for our Library of Things collection.

Each service desk has a FAQ Sheet about this part of the grant.
