Special Staff Shout Out-Olivia Edition

On Saturday morning, Olivia expertly handled an incredible influx of eager caregivers and little ones who wanted to attend the Music with Mara and Motoko event, which filled to capacity almost immediately.

At least thirty additional families arrived late and were unable to get into the Community Room immediately, but Olivia gracefully offered them some options to continue enjoying the music, waiting until space opened up, or encouraging them to play elsewhere in the library. She was kind and gentle, and families were understanding. We even had a phone call from a patron asking what in the world was going on in the library this morning because parking was nigh impossible.

I’m sure she will tell you this was incredibly well attended, an extra delight for families on a hot and steamy rainy morning, so her handling even the disappointed people was especially impressive. She kept everything in control and remained calm, and there were no adult or child meltdowns. She had caregivers smiling and thanking her, and families were really kind about taking turns so others could get in the room when there was a crowd waiting in the hallway.

Just another example of Olivia’s incredible professionalism in a challenging situation. Kudos to Olivia!

From Sara.

Book Bike Schedule Survey

If you are interested in riding the Book Bike around this summer and creating good cheer,  please fill out the Book Bike Form.

There are a few requirements; you need to have gone through the Book Bike orientation, and you must check with your supervisor before we give the go-ahead.   Once you’ve done that, you are ready to bike!  The Book Bike will be stationed at the commuter rail on some evenings and will also appear at the Wednesday Reading Rec. Summer performances happening at Memorial Park.    This is paid time.   Please do not sign up for an event during your scheduled desk shift hours.   If you have any questions, speak to Michelle, Cate, Andrea F or Andrea H.

Communications-Updates

The Communications Working Group held our bi-monthly meeting on Monday. Here are relevant updates for all staff:

  1. Continue to add new library users to the email newsletter.
  2. From March to September, we will be piloting a monthly newsletter format instead of a weekly newsletter. We will continue to send newsletters for larger events/services and when specifically requested or as needed.
  3. Museum Pass Highlights: If you visit a museum using the library passes, send pictures of your experience to Desiree/Michelle, and we will promote it via social media.

Pocket Talk Translator-Update

We now have an additional PocketTalk Translator. It will live at the Ground Floor desk.

There are now 3 translators, one at Borrower Services, one that is shared between Childrens and the R & R desk. A copy of the instructions is in the box and I encourage staff members to test it out. I know that it has been used a few times already and it worked well.
The instructions are also saved under the Manuals/Instructions folder on the S Drive.
