The editorial calendar form has been updated to better reflect PR options available for programs, services, and collections. The google form works the same way as it did previously.
This is also a quick reminder that the Off the Shelf newsletter is now monthly, deploying approximately the first Tuesday of each month. Spur of the moment or last minute town department news to share will go out on a dedicated News Around Town email. We’re also trialing a weekly Friday or Monday FB/Instagram post with 4-5 programs (or a service or a collection) highlight and reminder to check the event calendar for details.
We’ll monitor how the monthly vs. weekly cadence works over the next months to a year. If you have any questions about the form or how to use it, please email Desiree or Michelle.
The Communications Working Group held our bi-monthly meeting on Monday. Here are relevant updates for all staff:
Continue to add new library users to the email newsletter.
From March to September, we will be piloting a monthly newsletter format instead of a weekly newsletter. We will continue to send newsletters for larger events/services and when specifically requested or as needed.
Museum Pass Highlights: If you visit a museum using the library passes, send pictures of your experience to Desiree/Michelle, and we will promote it via social media.
The Communications Working Group has created a Social Media and Communications Guidelines document. This document is a living document, therefore things may change… Twitter! for example. The guidelines are located here, on the Instructions page, and saved under the Public Relations folder on the S drive. A big thank you to all the CWG for their hard work on this.
Some files in the Administrative folder on the S drive are moving to the more secure town drive. If there is a file that you had previously used and it appears to be missing or in a folder labeled “delete”, let Meaghan C. know right away.
This is the start of a bigger project that may begin in the next 6 months. Questions? Ask Amy, Michelle, or Meaghan C.
RPL employees recognize communications are always a challenge. How can we help over 35 employees keep current on what’s happening and maintain a positive learning curve across three floors, four service desks, and 60-64 hours per week? There is no single answer, but centralized content is one way to help capture and coalesce all this knowledge and experience!
This is a first draft and will only get better as we get more input from YOU! Please email Amy to request new categories for a FAQ or if your name should be assigned (or deleted) as a point of contact for any of these issues.
I will be locking the password spreadsheet shortly because we are going to be moving to a new password software system. If you need access to a password please see me and I will give you access to the spreadsheet.
Are you ready for some shout-outs? If you’d like to submit a shout-out, fill out the form on the Forms page. Don’t be shy! Shout it out!
Shout out to Franny for going above and beyond, helping a co-worker, and keeping it positive. Franny is an amazing help to the Children’s Department, quickly stepping in to cover various nights, days and weekends for the department over the past few months, all while attending school. She quickly steps right in to help patrons and has provided the department with a lot of stability and peace. We are all very grateful to her for that. From Ally.
Shout out to Andrea H. for going above and beyond and helping a co-worker. Andrea went searching for a specific copy for a book I needed (a first edition from the 1970s) and after tireless emails and possible rejections, it finally came in! Thank you for becoming the Indiana Jones of ComCat requests so that me (and patrons) can get the books they desperately want/need. We appreciate you in Children’s! From Olivia.
Shout out to The Borrower Services Staff for going above and beyond and keeping it positive. Thank you to the Borrower Services staff for their patience and enthusiasm! Getting the lockers up and running has been a long, complicated journey, and the BoSer staff has been so patient and supportive. Now that we’re using them regularly (!), everyone has been so enthusiastic and so willing to learn everything they need to know to ensure that our patron’s experience of the lockers is great. You’re all truly fabulous! From Valerie.
Shout out to the RPL Staff for going above and beyond and keeping it positive. Thank you for such a warm welcome! I’ve had a fantastic first week because of all of you! From Dina.
Shout out to Dina for exemplary customer service and for keeping it positive. In her first two weeks, Dina has organized the CR desk, run programs, learned Evergreen, researched prizes for summer reading, embraced Canva, collected mentor texts, and so much more, all with an infectious laugh and a supportive heart! Shine on, Dina! From anonymous.
Shout out to Meaghan Clemente for keeping it positive. Meaghan has handled the paperwork for the Trustees’ meetings quickly and smoothly. We are very lucky to have her on our team. From Michelle.
An article in today’s Boston Globe highlights RPL and the book and program challenges we have faced in the library world. Kudos to Ally and Andrea for their thoughtful responses to the reporter’s questions.
This article may result in follow-up questions from the press. If we receive any phone calls or in-person inquiries, please direct them to either Amy or Michelle.
Copies of updated Gift Forms, as well as instructions on who to pass completed forms along to internally, are now available at all service desks and in the Forms section of the Staff Intranet.
